Our Toddler Program is designed to help each child reach his/her full potential. Young children develop in so many different ways and our teachers assist each one develop social skills, independence and self-care as well as emotional, cognitive and physical growth.
We understand toddlers are at a pivotal stage in their developmental so we utilize purposeful materials and a safe environment in order to allow and encourage children to explore and learn what they are curious about in any given time. Our classroom is child-directed and carefully prepared to mimic adults through play, cleaning, food prep and more. In this stage, we foster self-care in toileting, clothing and feeding and help them find the language to help express what their needs are.
Our teachers in the toddler classroom focus on using positive language and redirection instead of harsh discipline. We observe each child as they are able to “work” at their own pace with materials they have chosen, with guidance from the teachers. They may work alone or with others as our program gives the child the freedom to choose within limits and to “do it themselves” which is very important in developing positive self-esteem and confidence. Our outdoor toddler area is another part of the extended classroom where children are free to explore, assist in gardening or animal care and experience additional opportunities for artwork.
In the Toddler Program, we nurture the child’s autonomy and model respect for themselves, the children and the whole community. We watch creativity flourish in this atmosphere of acceptance and trust because we believe each child is an individual with unique needs, desires and learning processes and should be treated with the utmost respect.
